Communication Intern - City of Olathe (Olathe, KS)

The City of Olathe's Public Works Department is actively seeking a Communications Intern to support Public Works communications by assisting and developing creative, graphic solutions including print, digital, video, social media, and ongoing projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
> Assist in the development of all internal and external communications for Public Works by designing brochures, flyers, postcards, and graphics within the branding guidelines for the city using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
> Take and edit photos and video using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere to be used in promotional materials.
> Work collaboratively with the department to achieve strategic communication and organizational goals.
> Research communication best practices; analyze, document and assess the feasibility of utilizing such practices, and establish benchmarks for measuring effectiveness.
> Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
> Demonstrated proficiency in the use of social media and web-based platforms.
> Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects and Adobe Premiere or other design and editing programs.
> Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
> Strong organization skills.
> Attention to detail, willingness to ask questions and ability to follow up.
> Initiative, enthusiasm to learn and ability to follow directions.
> Proven ability to work both independently and within a team structure in a fast-paced environment.

Education: Junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field; Communications, Graphic Design, Public Relations or Marketing.

Experience: Successful candidate will provide examples of photography, graphic design, video and writing.
