International Republican Institute - External Affairs Coordinator (Washington, DC)

International Republican Institute (IRI) seeks an ambitious, creative professional with a passion for Communications to join our External Affairs team. The External Affairs (EA) Coordinator will be a vital part of our close-knit team, responsible for helping to promote IRI’s work advancing democracy globally. Core duties will include event management, research, editorial assistance, basic website management and administrative support. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the communications field by working for one of the world’s leading democracy development nonprofits and to gain insights on a variety of topics related to international relations and development.

The EA Coordinator is an entry-level professional and a key member of the External Affairs team and works with each component of the team to ensure that events, publications, media, research and general outreach are executed in a timely and efficient manner. S/he works across the organization to coordinate outreach activities between the EA team and the program teams at IRI.

Position Requirements:
> Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related.
> 1-3 years experience in a communications role.
> Self-starter with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
> Strong ability to initiate, foster and maintain relationships with contacts and stakeholders in a diverse and multicultural environment with sensitivity, respect, discretion, tact, and professionalism.
> Excellent organizational and decision-making skills and the ability to initiate work and set priorities independently.
> Meticulous attention to detail and a natural sense to prioritize tasks and ability to multitask.
> Proven analytical skill with the ability to conduct research in support of a public affairs team.
> Exceptional writing skills with an emphasis on timeliness and quality.

Preferred Skills:
> Experience organizing and managing the budget and logistics of events and meetings.
> Knowledge of the application Eventbrite.
> Exceptional writing and copy editing skills.
> Knowledge of foreign affairs priorities and democracy assistance.
