After many years of anticipation, the PROWAG update was published in the Federal Register on August 8. What does this mean for Nebraska's local transportation agencies?

Officially, the update hasn't cleared all of the steps to be fully adopted and legally enforceable. It still awaits certification by the US Department of Transportation and the US Department of Justice. Once certified by both federal agencies, the rules apply nationally. There is no state-level approval, adoption, or certification process.

This update has been anticipated for more than twenty years. The first draft was released for public comment in 2002. The guidelines went through numerous revision and comment phases.

To explore the document and its meaning to your agency, a few resources are available. The Access Board, coordinating organization for PROWAG, has recently shared a series of YouTube videos breaking down the update.
