Two science literacy talks will be given on Sept. 16.
"Making Science Relevant to General Education Audiences at the University of Oregon" will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in 107 Hardin Hall on UNL East Campus. Eleanor Vandegrift, Associate Director of Science Literacy Program at the University of Oregon, will present.
Vandegrift will also speak from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a Faculty Development Workshop: Teaching for the 21st Century in the East Campus Union. This workshop will provide an up-to-date review of approaches known to foster deep learning and demonstrate, through the design of the presentation itself, how such approaches can be embedded in teaching. Workshop participants will acquire new knowledge, use that new knowledge in a specific context, and receive feedback on their performance. Whether teaching faculty, education specialists, or administrators, participants will leave with a clear vision not only of how to prepare students for the future, but of how they as individuals can promote change within their institutions.
