Zsombor Rajkai, an associate professor from Kyoto University in Japan, will discuss his research into new interpretations of family in socialist and post-socialist societies. The talk is 3:30 p.m., March 15 in Mabel Lee Hall, room 262.
Rajkai's expertise is in the role of family both in socialist modernization and in the subsequent systemic transformation. His research team focuses on understanding how marketization (from plan economy to market economy), changing social/family policies (with the state playing less paternalistic roles than before), and the potential of newly emerging grassroots communities/civil society affect families in these transitional societies.
A reception follows the presentation. Rajkai will attend and be available for additional discussion.
The lecture is free and open to faculty, staff and students.
