The Guerrilla Girls on Tour, an internationally acclaimed anonymous theater collective, will perform "Feminists are Funny" at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets, at 7 p.m. March 12.
The 70-minute play is an energetic combination of the group's street theater protests and latest actions regarding politics, the arts and media. The performance ends with a question and answer discussion with the audience.
The performance is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. The doors to the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium at Sheldon will open at 6:30 p.m. for first-come, first-served seating.
Guerrilla Girls on Tour is a company of 26 women trained in a variety of comedic theater techniques who develop unique and outrageous activist plays, performance art and street theater. Each member works under the name of a dead woman artist and performs wearing a gorilla mask. The troupe has presented more than 200 performances and workshops around the world addressing topics such as reproductive rights, war, sex trafficking, hunger, and violence against women.
The collective's Lincoln performance is sponsored by the UNL Department of Art and Art History, Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, Sheldon Museum of Art, SAGE (Students for Achieving Gender Equity), Department of Textiles Clothing and Design, and the Women's and Gender Studies Program.
Guerrilla Girls on Tour was the recipient of the 2010 Yoko Ono Courage for the Arts Award.
