Campus Recreation offers several American Red Cross water safety courses this spring, including Lifeguard Certification, Lifeguard Review, and Lifeguard Instructor sourses.
LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION CLASS
The Lifeguard Certification course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. It is a blended learning course that combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.
Registration deadline is Jan. 31 for the Feb. 16-18 class and Mar. 28 for the Apr. 13-15 class. Fees are $100 for UNL students and Campus Recreation members, $125 for non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning component).
LIFEGUARD REVIEW CLASS
The Lifeguard Review course provides re-certification for lifeguards who already have receive their Lifeguard certification. Registration deadline is Apr. 4 for the Apr. 21 class. Participants must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course. Fees are $75 for UNL students and Campus Recreation members, $100 for non-members.
LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR CLASS
This class provides a Lifeguard Instructor certificate for those who already posess a current lifeguard certification. Registration deadline is Jan. 10 for the Jan. 26-28 class. Participants must be 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course. Registration fees are $175 for UNL students and Campus Recreation members, $200 for non-members.
