The University Health Center is once again offering free flu shots to currently enrolled UNL students.

A flu shot helps your student stay healthy and protects the Husker community from the spread of influenza. Because the flu and COVID-19 have similar symptoms, the health center highly recommends the flu vaccine to prevent respiratory illness on campus.

Students who are 18 and older can get their flu shot by attending an upcoming drop-in flu vaccine clinic. These clinics are held at the University Health Center, room 240, on Oct. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The East Campus drop-in flu vaccine clinic will be held Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Nebraska East Union across from Starbucks.

17-year-olds and any students 18 and older who cannot attend a drop-in flu vaccine clinic can get vaccinated by scheduling an appointment at the health center. They must call 402.472.5000 to schedule an appointment in advance; drop-in visits are not permitted for safety reasons.

Students must bring their NCard and a completed 2021-22 Flu Vaccination Form with them.

If your student is 18, Nebraska state law requires parental permission for them to get vaccinated. If you have not already submitted the Power of Attorney form to the health center, you must complete the form, have it notarized and send a copy with your student when they attend the drop-in clinic or flu shot appointment.

If your student is 17, the Power of Attorney form is not legally valid until they turn 18, which means we must call a parent or legal guardian at the time of check-in to obtain permission to vaccinate your student.

This year, the health center will be offering FLUARIX Quadrivalent flu shots, which protect against four different flu viruses.
