Free flu shots are now available for your University of Nebraska-Lincoln student at Nebraska Medicine – University Health Center.

How can my student receive a flu shot?
There are two options:

  1. Students who are 19 and older are eligible to attend one of our walk-in flu shot clinics held throughout the month of October. The clinic schedule is available at health.unl.edu/flu.
  2. Students who are unable to attend a walk-in clinic or are 18 and younger may make an appointment at the health center by calling 402.472.5000. Please note that this option may require a small wait.

My student is 18 years or younger. Why can’t he/she attend a walk-in clinic?
The age of majority in the state of Nebraska is 19. This means the University Health Center must obtain your consent before your student 18 or younger can receive a flu shot. Due to logistical obstacles, we are unable to obtain or verify parental consent at walk-in clinics.

What must my student bring with them to a walk-in clinic or their flu shot appointment?
For walk-in clinics, students must bring their NCard and a completed flu shot form.

For flu shot appointments, students must bring their NCard; the flu shot form mentioned above is not required for appointments. Students 18 or younger must have parental permission to receive a flu shot at their appointment. There are two options:
• If your student is 18 years old, fill out, have notarized and send the health center this Power of Attorney form. If you have already submitted this form, another submission is not required.
-OR-
• If you do not wish to fill out a Power of Attorney form or if your student is 17 years or younger, health center staff will call you at the time of your student’s appointment for verbal consent.

When should my student get the flu shot?
This is up to you. Flu shots will be offered at the health center throughout flu season, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people get a flu shot by the end of October if possible.

What else do I need to know about the flu shot?
The health center will be giving FLUARIX Quadrivalent vaccines this year, which protect against four different flu viruses. Before your student receives the shot, it is recommended you and your student read the influenza vaccine information statement for more information.
