The fifth annual Student Research Days Slam on April 9 is seeking presenters. This contest features short, engaging presentations from graduate students, undergraduates and postdocs across a variety of disciplines.
Faculty are urged to encourage their students to participate in this opportunity to win cash prizes while sharing their work with a campus-wide audience. The event is part of Student Research Days, April 6-10.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. at the Nebraska Union Ballroom, with the Slam to follow from noon-1 p.m. The audience will decide the winner.
Slam applications will be in the form of a 60-second video “trailer” previewing students’ potential Slam presentation, submitted via Padlet. Application videos must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. March 26. Only the selection committee will be able to view the videos. Five finalists will be selected to present at the Slam.
Jocelyn Bosley, research impact coordinator for the Office of Research and Innovation, said the committee is interested both in the content of submissions and in students’ ability to engage the viewer with creativity and narrative skills. She encouraged faculty to make their students aware of this unique opportunity to “share their work with their peers in a fun and supportive environment and add a little bling to their C.V.”
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the first UNL Science Slam in 2016, prospective Slammers can choose from a list of past Slam prompts to respond to. Learn more at the application portal.
Attendees must register to attend the event. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend to support these scholars. Contact Bosley for more information. (jbosley@unl.edu)
