Career Fairs connect students with employers online this fall.

Career Services is excited to host virtual Career Fairs this semester. The Fall Career Fair, which will take place on an online platform designed for career fairs, will be held in sessions over four days, each day targeted to different career pathways reflected across all university majors.

Attending a Career Fair is a unique career building opportunity for all Husker students. Dave Gosselin, director of Environmental Studies, explains the power and potential of career fairs in this way:

“Career fairs are a tremendous resource for students that they should all use early and often during their academic career. Using these resources early in a relatively low-risk environment helps expand a student’s horizons regarding the vast array of opportunities available to them. Many of which they never knew existed. The more often they interact with the human resources professionals at the career fair, the more they can learn about jobs, the search process and internship opportunities, the better prepared they will be too after their first job.”

Ongoing data from the Career Fairs indicate that, on average, over 65% of students participating did so based largely on encouragement from faculty and staff. Such support may take the form of extra credit awarded for participating, requiring participation as an assignment, class announcements, discussion of the potential benefits as a part of a class presentation or lecture, or promoting participation in advising conversations with individuals or student groups. Whatever the method, faculty and staff encouragement make a difference in getting students to take advantage of the opportunities presented by career fairs.

Career Services can provide digital marketing content to help you introduce Career Fairs in your classroom. We can also help you explore other ways to encourage your students to participate. Contact us at careerservices@unl.edu for more information.
