Survey on sustainability curriculum in higher education

UNL's September Sustainability Education Summit
UNL's September Sustainability Education Summit

The Chancellor's Environment, Sustainability, and Resilience Commission has partnered with the Office of Sustainability to conduct a study assessing the incorporation of sustainability in the university's curriculum.

Faculty who teach a course that focuses on or includes sustainability are asked to complete a 15-20 minute survey on sustainability curriculum to help further the understanding of instructors’ backgrounds and opinions of sustainability.

The survey will help identify where sustainability components are being taught, as well as barriers to implementing sustainability into curriculum. The results will aid in strengthening sustainability curriculum in programs at UNL.

Faculty will be asked to share their course syllabus, if possible. Those who teach multiple classes that incorporate sustainability will have an option to complete an additional portion of the survey to discuss each class separately.

Data will be anonymized. A unique code will be attached to data collected from responses. Coded data will be kept on password-protected personal computers and shared folders for five years or upon project completion. Information will only be shared with the public, such as in scientific journals in de-identified or aggregated formats. Selected individuals may be asked to participate in an interview as a follow-up to the survey.

Questions about the survey and research can be directed to Anna Oetting at aoetting2@huskers.unl.edu.
