What distinguishes first generation students from continuing generation students? As part of creating an equitable and diverse university, how do we include and support first generation students? The First Gen Nebraska Reading Club is for university faculty and staff interested in these issues.

The reading club explores an article or book chapter each month through a Zoom conversation and discussion board where participants contribute their thoughts on the readings and respond to others' thoughts.

The First Gen Nebraska Reading Club will meet in the spring semester from 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Zoom on Jan. 26, Feb. 23, and March 23.

Interested faculty and staff can sign up online.

The Executive Vice Chancellor’s Office sponsors First Generation Nebraska, designed to link first-generation college students with faculty and staff who share a similar academic experience with the goal of making our campus more "first generation friendly."

Acknowledging first-generation status as part of one's identity might seem a small thing, but it can be critical to students' success, helping them easily identify faculty and staff who can relate to particular challenges they might be facing.

Learn more by engaging with fellow colleagues in this reading club’s discussions about how to improve the university climate for first generation student success.
