Career dress has become more casual, but students must still make that first impression to get there. To help students build their career wardrobes, Career Services is teaming up with JC Penney and the LGBTQA+ Center on two events leading up to the spring Career Fair.
Husker Suit-Up offers students discounts on career and dress apparel at JC Penney either in-store or online. To receive their extra 30% coupon code for the select apparel, students can text HUSKERSUITUP to 67292. When shopping online, the coupon code should be entered at checkout to get the discount. Husker Suit-Up runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 6.
The Lavender Closet Pop-Up event, a collaboration of Career Services and the LGBTQA+ Center, offers students the opportunity to pick up gender-affirming career attire for free. The event, an extension of the center's Lavender Closet resource, will be held Feb. 1 - 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Career Services, 225 Nebraska Union, where there will be space to try on clothing. Career Coaches will be available for consultation on career attire and other career fair and career development questions.
In the College of Business, the Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi operates the Career Closet, which provides professional attire exclusively for students of the College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. Located in Howard L. Hawks Hall, room 102, the Career Closet is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students may receive three professional dress items (a full matching suit only counts as one item).
