Open a space to discuss and interrogate ideas without the pressure of needing to already have the answers by joining a CTT-sponsored Learning Community. Philosophies, strategies, and technologies involved in teaching and learning can all evolve over time, and these sessions can provide a fresh perspective on the challenges of teaching.
Learning Communities meet at least four times a year to discuss books, articles, lectures, or other kinds of artifact surrounding a particular topic of interest. Some learning communities will have dates and times scheduled in advance. Register if you are interested even if times don't work for your schedule. The CTT may offer alternate schedules to meet demand.
Books will be provided for those interested in participating in a Learning Community.
This year, the CTT will facilitate learning communities on the following topics. Additional information is available online.
- The Skillful Teacher: On Technique, Trust, and Responsiveness in the Classroom, facilitated by Danae Peterson
- Gamification in Higher Education, facilitated by Steven Cain and Amy Ort
- Mind Over Monsters: Supporting Youth Mental Health with Compassionate Challenge, facilitated by Steven Cain and Amy Ort
Similarly, #NCLUDE, run by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, is designed so that individuals who desire to grow their knowledge, skills, and awareness in a particular DEI-related area can do so in an environment of care, commitment, and accountability. Learning groups co-create a space for students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members to engage in dynamic dialogue, reflection, and offer support to one another.
Each semester, #NCLUDE will offer a mix of learning groups anchored by one or two individuals. Additional information is available online.
