Academic Technologies has enabled New Quizzes as an option in all courses. New Quizzes is Canvas’ second-generation assessment platform, and it has several new question types and features that may be of interest to faculty who give computer-based quizzes. To see the New Quizzes option in the “Quizzes” section of your Canvas course, click “+ Quiz” to select the type of quiz you would like to create or click the three dots to the right of a Classic Quiz to see a Migrate option. There are no plans to turn off Classic Quizzes at this time – New Quizzes is simply a new option with new features that some faculty may be interested in for their courses. This spring, Academic Technologies will once again offer its Zoom-based Learning Series, which will also include several training sessions for New Quizzes. Here are the upcoming dates and times for training sessions in January and February:

  • New Quizzes Introduction Jan. 30, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. – In this session, learners will get a crash course on New Quizzes. Presenters will explore how New Quizzes is different than Classic Quizzes, detail the question types that are available, provide an overview of how settings and accommodations work, and discuss how this platform will work in the Digital Learning Center.   • YuJa Basics Feb. 5, 3-4 p.m. – In this session, Diana from YuJa will teach participants the basics of using UNL's academic video platform, including a discussion of its features such as recording, editing, video quizzes, and analytics. Register online.

  • Classroom Support Feb. 14, 10-11 a.m. – In this session, the presenter will discuss the main types of classroom tech, provide tips and tricks, and other helpful support information that faculty need to know. Register online.

  • OER Feb. 22, 2-3 p.m. – Many people have heard of open educational resources, but what is OER and how can it provide greater equity in your classes? This session will provide information about how to leverage OER and provide options about how to adopt it in your courses. Register online.

  • Canvas Best Practices Feb. 29, 9-10 a.m. –In this collaborative session, members of the Center for Transformative Teaching and Academic Technologies will teach users about best practices for Canvas from a technical and design perspective. Register online.

Technology Tuesdays
For just-in-time support and general questions about UNL technology, Academic Technologies will be offering Technology Tuesday office hours this semester Jan. 23 - May 14, 2-4 p.m. Faculty and staff are welcome to join Academic Technologies on Zoom to ask any technology questions they might have. From Canvas to classroom technology to OneDrive, we are here to help with any technology needs you might have. No advance sign up is needed; just visit go.unl.edu/techtuesdays.
