New Canvas course archive process

In an ongoing effort to enhance the user experience for faculty, Academic Technologies is announcing a new automated feature aimed at tidying up instructors' course lists. Beginning this summer, courses older than three years will no longer be listed as "active" for instructors and will be marked as "inactive." This adjustment is designed to declutter the Canvas interface, making it easier for faculty to find and focus on their current and recent courses.

This update will not remove any courses from Canvas. It simply changes how older courses display on the instructor's dashboard, putting the spotlight on the courses that need the most attention. The transition will be most noticeable upon its first implementation, with instructor status in courses from the years 2015-2020 set to transition to “inactive” in late May after finals week. Instructors can request to reactivate a course status by sending by contacting support@nebraska.edu. Students will see no change in their Canvas courses; they will retain the ability to view all their courses, past and present.

Academic Technologies invites faculty to discuss this change or other technology questions at any upcoming Technology Tuesday session. These are open office hours held every Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. during the semester where our staff are on hand to assist with technology questions. No advance sign up is needed; just visit go.unl.edu/techtuesdays. Your feedback is valuable as we strive to improve the Canvas experience for all faculty members.
