Proposals can be submitted for the first round of the OpenAI Impact Program. This initiative, in collaboration with OpenAI, offers up to 200 faculty and staff members access to UNL’s enterprise version of ChatGPT, unlocking new possibilities for AI-powered innovation in teaching, research, and campus operations.

Faculty and staff are invited to submit proposals to explore how AI can enhance pedagogy, streamline workflows, or drive groundbreaking research and creative activity. The program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and encourages bold experimentation with AI’s potential impact on the university community.

Proposals can be submitted online.

Initial review will begin on March 31 and will continue on a rolling basis until all licenses are distributed. Advanced use cases may require additional review time. Approved applicants will be notified beginning April 30. Licenses will be allocated for a limited period, tentatively through the end of summer.

Proposal Categories and Eligibility
Proposals must align with one of the following categories:

  • Teaching and Learning: innovating pedagogy, course design, and student engagement.
  • Operational Efficiency: enhancing faculty and staff productivity, well-being, and work quality.
  • Advanced Use-Inspired Research or Creative Activity: leveraging AI for cutting-edge research with real-world impact (excluding human subjects research).

Proposal Guidelines
Successful proposals will include:
  • A compelling justification for the number of licenses requested.
  • A clear explanation of how ChatGPT Enterprise will be utilized.
  • A strategy for assessing AI’s impact on the project.
  • Commitment to ethical AI use, ITS security guidelines, and university policies.
  • A willingness to share insights and results with the UNL community.

This opportunity is open to faculty and staff only; affiliates, volunteers, and students are not eligible at this time. Faculty interested in potential future student licenses can indicate their interest on the proposal form.

Each participant in a project must have their own license, and all applicants must complete Generative AI Cybersecurity Awareness Training.
