Seeking Husker Dialogue Conversation Guides for September 6th

Last fall, over 2,600 first year students participated in Husker Dialogues, an event designed to build skills for meaningful conversations and to help create an inclusive Husker community. Husker Dialogues uses small group discussions to lay the foundation for practicing and engaging in conversations about diversity and inclusion. Thanks to more than 360 faculty, staff and student volunteers, last year’s event was a success. Over 87% of participating students reported that they were more aware of diversity in the campus community because of Husker Dialogues.

To continue developing this Husker tradition, we need your help. We’re looking for conversation guides with excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create a welcoming environment for all Nebraska students on the evening of Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Based on feedback from past facilitators, a 90-minute training will be required this year. The training will help you:
• Know what to expect from the Husker Dialogues event.
• Feel knowledgeable and prepared for your role as a conversation guide.
• Practice your skills for hosting meaningful conversations.

Sign up today to reserve your seat. http://stuafs.unl.edu/husker-dialogues/registration

Ten training sessions will be offered March 21-April 4, 2017. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. When you sign up for the training, you’ll also be registered as a Conversation Guide.

Even if you aren’t able to be a Conversation Guide, you can support Husker Dialogues by including information in your syllabus about the event and encouraging first year students to attend. You can even give students “extra points” for attending. Student’s scan their “N” cards at the door to register their attendance.

Your participation in Husker Dialogues helps demonstrate the commitment our faculty, staff and students have toward cultivating a welcome campus for all.
