Students can now record research and creative activity in Handshake

Your students can now record research and creative activity experiences in Handshake, the career platform utilized by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Handshake lets students share their specialized knowledge and skills with future employers. Students can record all their experiences—paid, volunteer, or through a program like UCARE—in one place.

As a faculty mentor, you will review and confirm the student’s self-reported experience. You do not have to create an account or manage a profile: just follow the link emailed to you. If you have questions about the validity of the experience, contact Justina Clark from Undergraduate Research at jclark17@unl.edu.

The instructions for students to record a research or creative activity experience in Handshake are simple:
1) After creating your Handshake profile, click “Career Center” and select “Experiences,” then “Request an Experience”
2) Complete the Details section and be sure to select Experience Type = “Undergraduate Research – Report a Position – Fall 2018” from the drop-down menu
3) Complete the Employer section by typing in your relevant information
4) Complete the Job section and for Job type “Undergraduate Researcher” and Job Type select “Experiential Learning” from the drop-down menu
5) Complete the Approvers section by providing your faculty mentor’s email address
6) Complete the General section and click “Request Experience”

Encouraging your students to utilize Handshake will help the University better report undergraduate research and creative activity participation, understand student responsibilities across fields and disciplines, and report how undergraduate research and creative activity participation connects to students’ career goals. Please direct any student or faculty questions to Justina Clark.
