20th Annual Robert Mittelstaedt Doctoral Symposium begins tonight

The 20th Annual Robert Mittelstaedt Doctoral Symposium begins at 7 p.m., March 31 in the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Emphasizing dissertation research, the remainder of the symposium will run throughout the weekend at the Embassy Suites, 1040 P St.

Doctoral students will present their dissertation research with other students serving as discussants.

The symposium, hosted by the College of Business Administration's Marketing Department, emphasizes dissertation research. The symposium is modeled after the Haring Symposium held annually by the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Participating schools send students and faculty to attend. The symposium starts with a welcome reception on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday doctoral students present their dissertation research and other students serve as discussants. Faculty help provide constructive feedback to the student's paper. This give graduate students the opportunity to present their research and give them the experience of presenting in a conference setting.

Schools presenting this year include: University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Oklahoma, University of Missouri, Oklahoma State University, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, Washington State University, University of Arkansas, University of Oregon, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, University of Kansas and UNL.

Jim Gentry, chair and professor of marketing, serves as faculty adviser to the symposium.
