Welcome to the second edition of our newsletter for the PGA Golf Management Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln! I promise that this second edition will be shorter and will cover what has happened in the program since the last newsletter in February. Enjoy this edition of our happenings!
We all know this is a busy time of the year for students in our program. Freshmen and new transfer students are interning at their first internships, while others are working at their second or third internship site. And a select few are on their last internship, and it is more than likely an extended internship. We will have a few students finish up this summer and graduate in August. We look forward to these soon-to-be graduates being elected to membership and becoming PGA professionals.
Before they headed out to internship sites around the country, we recognized students who show promise and who have excelled in the classroom or in their communities. There are two articles highlighting our exceptional students in the PGA Golf Management Program. Believe me, we have many great students in our program!
PGA professionals Jim White and Greg Johannesen, who are with the Firethorn Golf Club here in Lincoln, worked with our students in the spring semester to improve their game to become better PGA professionals and to pass their PAT (Playing Ability Test). There is an article highlighting our students who were successful this academic year in passing their PAT.
I ask that you put a "Save the Date" memo in your calendar for the fall of 2017. In late September or early October, our PGA Golf Management Program will host its inaugural alumni gathering here in Lincoln. Early plans include a fun and exciting golf tournament, and an evening dinner recognizing our PGA Golf Management alumni.
