"Diversity and Inclusion are equally critical to the success of an organization… when everyone is included in the conversation our accomplishments are unlimited. “Pride in the Workplace” is a unique opportunity for LGBTQA+ students and allies to connect with companies… that care as much as you [about diversity and inclusion]" – Wesley Dooley, SHRM-CP, Workforce Resources Business Partner, Union Pacific Railroad

Pride in the Workplace is an event where LGBTQA+ students, allies, and employers can create connections and discuss workplace inclusion, held virtually on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 4-5:30pm. The option to register and the Zoom link can be found at https://careers.unl.edu/events/2021/10/14/pride-in-the-workplace-3/.

Coordinated by University Career Services in collaboration with the UNL LGBTQA+ Resource Center and Union Pacific, Pride in the Workplace brings organizations working to create a work environment that is diverse and inclusive for their teams to UNL students and their allies. Strategies to navigate the job search and the workplace as an LGBTQA+ student will be discussed in addition to initiatives these organizations have taken to create a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive workplace. Allies who support LGBTQA+ students and look for inclusive work environments themselves are also encouraged to participate.

In addition to Union Pacific, last year’s Pride in the Workplace event brought in organizations such as Mutual of Omaha, LinkedIn, UNL, PayPal, Hyatt, and more. This year’s organizations are currently in the process of signing-up for the event and will be listed along with a profile of their initiatives for inclusiveness at the Pride in the Workplace page at https://careers.unl.edu/pride-in-the-workplace/. David Black, Director - Carrier Relations and the current President of BRIDGES, Union Pacific’s Employee Resource Groups for LGBTQA+ team members, will open the event with a brief presentation on his career path and experiences. This will be followed by quick introductions by the representatives of the participating organizations who will then move to break-out rooms where students and allies can go for more direct conversations. Students and allies can move from room to room to maximize the information and connections they gain.
