If you are working with students who plan to start law school in the Fall of 2027, it is nearly time for them to take the LSAT! We encourage students to take the LSAT for the first time in June (registration deadline: April 21st) or August (registration deadline forthcoming) before their senior year. Then, students can plan for a second attempt if needed, after several months of additional practice, ideally in October or November. This schedule keeps them on track to apply during the fall semester of their senior year, which puts them in the best possible position for admission and scholarship consideration.
Students who are hoping to start law school in the Fall of 2027 or later, and who demonstrate financial need, should consider applying for an LSAC Fee Waiver, which can help pay for LSAT studying, registration, and certain application costs. The LSAC recommends that students apply for this at least 6 months prior to their LSAT date, but it can be applied for at any time. https://www.lsac.org/lsat/register-lsat/lsat-cas-fees/fee-waiver.
Summer is also an excellent time for students of all ages to build their résumés through internships, research, or study abroad. To get a head start, students should begin exploring opportunities now, as many summer programs open their applications early. Resources such as Handshake and their University Career Coaches can help them identify relevant options and prepare strong applications.
