The Amicitia Clarinet Extravaganza, featuring a weekend of free webinars via Zoom and Facebook Live for clarinetists of all ages, will be held Sept. 12-13.

The Amicitia Duo includes Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Clarinet Diane Barger and University of Alabama at Birmingham Professor of Clarinet Denise Gainey.

“Since my annual clarinet day, Midwest ClariFest, had to be canceled this past April, as well as this current academic year, due to the pandemic, I am excited to announce a new initiative for clarinetists of all ages and music educators: the Amicitia Clarinet Extravaganza,” Barger said. “This weekend of events will be offered via Zoom and be live-streamed onto the Amicitia Duo’s Facebook page on September 12-13. My Amicitia Duo partner and I will serve as co-hosts and guest speakers throughout the weekend’s events also include other renowned clarinet pedagogues from around the U.S. and Canada.”

The schedule is as follows:

Saturday, Sept. 12
• First Impressions: How to Successfully Apply to College” with panelists Barger and Gainey, 10 a.m. CST
• Proper Care and Feeding of Your Clarinet: Tips from Morrie” with panelist Morrie Backun, the owner of Backun Musical Services, and hosts Barger and Gainey, 11:30 a.m. CST
• My Favorite Clarinet Tips with panelists Michelle Anderson, Bradford Behn and Wesley Ferreira, and hosts Barger and Gainey, 1:30 p.m.
• How to Use the ICA Website with panelist Jessica Harrie and hosts Barger and Gainey, 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 13
• Band Director’s Forum: Tips for Improving Your Clarinet Section with panelists Barger and Gainey, 10 a.m. CST
• On the Job Hunt: Strategies for Applying to College Teaching Jobs with panelists Kip Franklin, Vanessa Davis and Jenny Maclay, and hosts Barger and Gainey, 1 p.m. CST
• The Power of Professionalism: Building Skills for Success with panelists David Cook, Julia Heinen and Jesse Krebs, and hosts Barger and Gainey, 3 p.m. CST

Barger is excited to offer this weekend for clarinetists of all ages and their teachers.

“We are so thrilled to offer this weekend of informative sessions in this new, creative way at no cost to the participants,” she said. “It is our way of giving back during a time of need, and we hope this brings some joy to clarinetists, colleagues, and music educators all across the globe.”
