Big(ger) Red welcome lands international student accolades
Nebraska has been putting out a Big Red Welcome mat for international students arriving at the Lincoln Airport since fall 2015 as part of a larger directive to provide supports that help international students succeed in their first semester studying in the United States. This year, the New Student Enrollment office redesigned the program according to student feedback, in conjunction with the new Domestic Welcome Week activities.

Kiewit partnership powers Nebraska Engineering forward
The chairman and chief executive officer of Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc. joined with the chancellor of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Sept. 16 to announce the Omaha corporation’s support of a significant expansion of Nebraska Engineering. The company’s $20 million commitment is a substantial contribution to an estimated $85 million engineering facility planned for Lincoln.

Yeutter Institute kicks off podcast with Gov. Ricketts
The first episode of Trade Matters, a podcast of the Clayton Yeutter Institute of International Trade and Finance at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has been released, with Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts discussing his views on trade. During the episode, the governor also talks about how he weighs in with Washington on trade policy, where he sees opportunities for Nebraska exports and how he strategizes for trade missions.

UNL’s Czech language program provides cultural exposure to students
After more than 100 years of teaching Czech and almost being discontinued in 1993, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Czech language and culture program is still teaching classes today. The program has continued through the help of the Czech Language Foundation, a nonprofit formed after 1993 to support the program.

Nebraska’s ‘transformative’ emerging media arts program opens
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln welcomes the “wizards and pirates and magicians of the world” when it opened on its new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts on Aug. 26. Even before its official opening, the center earned a Hewlett Packard/Educause Campus of the Future designation, the first program in the Big Ten to do so.
