KSNB-TV Local4, the NBC-affiliate in the Lincoln-Hastings-Kearney market, is looking for a weather reporter/meteorologist to generate compelling weather content and anchor weather segments in our weekend newscasts.
Weather is the most important story we tell and Local4 is establishing its brand as a weather leader.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We need people on our team who have a passion for telling weather stories, how the weather impacts daily life, learning about our community and our audience, and to authentically demonstrate that passion on the air, on-line and especially in person. Our audience embraces our weather team because we show them that we care.
A background in meteorology is required, degree preferred. The ability to communicate live on-screen in a professional manner on all platforms is important. The ability to type and operate newsroom computers and other news gathering equipment in an above average capacity, excellent people skills when dealing with coworkers and the public, a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record are requirements. Position would require permanent residence in Hastings or Grand Island, Nebraska
Your schedule must be flexible for this position, as anchoring weekend newscasts and filling in weekdays as needed will also be a part of the position. You must also be willing to occasionally help with news content as needed, as covering big local and breaking news is a full-staff endeavor.
Familiarity with iNews, Sony ENG, Avid, TVU, and ARC Publishing a plus. Must have valid driver’s License with good driving record. Employment is contingent on successfully passing drug screen and driving record check.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
> Generate local weather-related content for our digital platforms and news broadcasts
> Contribute daily weather-related story pitches
> Develop weather-related stories daily, shoot video, write and edit copy and video, front these stories in person live and in-studio
> Anchor weather segments in weekend newscasts and fill-in as needed for morning and evening newscasts
> Work with weather team to grow digital and social media footprint of our weather platforms including ksnblocal4.com and our KSNB Weather App
> Use WSI hardware and software to generate weather presentations on-air, on-line
> Anchor severe weather coverage as needed, using available tools to provide a comprehensive understanding of the weather
