Senator Vargas’ office is looking for committed activists who are looking to help with constituent outreach, community advocacy, and managing the office. Applicants for this position should be eager, a self-starter, and willing to work in a variable, high stress environment.
Responsibilities:
> Work closely with the Administrative Aide to carry out secretarial services, administrative services, constituent services, intern management, and other work as required.
> Maintain contact information for constituents, community organizations, and local elected officials.
> Work with the Social Media and Policy interns and Administrative Aide to develop social media campaigns around legislation or community issues.
> Research and attend local events, causes, and organizations on behalf of Senator Vargas’ office.
> Recruit volunteers for events (examples: door-to-door volunteers for the Community Survey, conducted during the interim; volunteers to help greet people at fundraisers and town halls).
> Other tasks as necessary.
Requirements:
> Applicants for this internship should have experience (academic and/or professional or volunteer) in Communications, Marketing, and Political Science fields.
> Applicants with other backgrounds and relevant experience may be considered.
> Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of volunteer recruitment, community organizing, and outreach strategies and techniques.
> Applicants must be able to demonstrate a passion for the legislature, social justice policy, and strengthening the civic health of our communities.
> Availability of 10 hours per week.
