Lori Swiatek has been an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer (EMGV) for 2 years and has volunteered over 100 hours. Lori has volunteered at Discovery Days and teaches students about gardening at the Beattie Elementary School garden.

What have you learned since you became an EMGV?
The educational training has definitely expanded my technical knowledge in several areas. However, what stands out for me is learning about all the resources available through Nebraska Extension. The website, NebGuides and GROBigRed series have all provided invaluable information for my continued learning.

What is your favorite part about volunteering with Nebraska Extension?
While I have enjoyed working with the kids at Beattie Elementary, I have to say meeting and learning from the other Master Gardeners has definitely been a favorite part of the program. Their knowledge has left me awestruck.

If you could encourage someone else to volunteer, what would you say?
I would say, “Just do it.” We all have something to give. You may be surprised at what you get in return.
