Matt Schaefer spoke on a panel on the radio frequency interference with satellites and its impact on space sustainability in Colorado Springs in May at the National Space Symposium. Professor Schaefer was the lone lawyer on the panel and suggested some possible legal enforcement mechanisms for international obligations prohibiting harmful interference in response to satellite operators’ increasing frustration with the lack of concrete tools to stop intentional radio frequency interference with satellites.
