Applications for Pi Mu Epsilon Now Open!

Pi Mu Epsilon is an honorary mathematics society that invites students with an interest in mathematics to become members regardless of their major. The Nebraska Alpha Chapter, founded in 1928, inducts new members each fall. Applications for new Pi Mu Epsilon members are now open, with a deadline of Friday, September 20, 2019.


This year's induction ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Pi Mu Epsilon lecture Using Mathematics to Create Symmetry Patterns given by Prof. Joe Gallian on Friday, October 11, 4-5 pm.


Benefits of joining Pi Mu Epsilon include:

1. Receive a one-year subscription to the Pi Mu Epsilon Journal.
2. Gain eligibility to become an officer of the Nebraska Alpha Chapter. The officers can directly participate in planning and organization of the chapter activities and Math Club events.
3. Become eligible to apply for funding from the Pi Mu Epsilon to travel to undergraduate conferences, for example, MAA's MathFest.
4. Enhance your CV/Resume by listing your Pi Mu Epsilon affiliation.

In order to qualify for membership, you must have:

1. a 3.0 GPA overall,
2. a 3.5 GPA in all math courses, and
3. completed at least two semesters of calculus and at least two more classes at or above the level of calculus (e.g., Math 106, 107, and two of Math 208, 221 or 314).

Completed applications with the dues amount owed can be returned to Doug Pellatz in 203 Avery Hall or Alexandra Seceleanu in 338 Avery Hall.
