Apply for Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experiences (UCARE)!

UCARE provides financial support through stipend-based or hourly Federal Work-Study positions. To be eligible for support, applicants must be full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and between 30 to 120 credits hours. This funding enables undergraduates to propose original research or creative projects, fostering hands-on training and mentor relationships.

For example, Luke Keilig, a junior art major mentored by Professor Eddie Dominguez, leveraged UCARE to develop a mosaic project for Bryan Medical Center West Campus that commemorates the community's experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic (https://news.unl.edu/newsrooms/today/article/art-program-helps-veteran-discover-his-passion-after-military-service/).

The deadline to apply for UCARE for the Summer 2024 semester, the 2024-25 academic year, or both is February 15, 2024.

The UCARE website has tips for crafting effective project proposals and our Experiences Directory, which showcases faculty who are seeking new student researchers.

Before applying, applicants must identify a faculty member who is willing to serve as a UCARE mentor and guide preparation of a proposal for original research or creative activity. What are your goals for your research or creative project experience? Do you want to join an existing project, or propose your own original topic? What’s a great way to approach a faculty mentor? At the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, Kali Patterson, Project Coordinator, offers advising by appointment to prospective applicants (https://careers.unl.edu/channels/make-an-appointment/). Kali will be holding drop-ins between February 12th-15th from 9:00am-11:00am CT. Although scheduled advising is also available each week leading up to the deadline (https://unlincoln.force.com/SSH/0058W00000BUUFM) – we hope students will take the opportunity to stop by if pressing questions arise just before application submission. Students with questions may also contact Kali at ucare@unl.edu.
