
Designed to keep you engaged with the latest happenings across MTEP 2.0, the following article includes brief updates from the Outreach, Research, Support, and Admin hubs, along with exciting cross-hub initiatives. Read on to learn what’s new with MTEP.
Outreach
- The Network Expansion Subhub hosted the MTEP/PhysTEC Connection hour on Sept. 9 and met on Sept. 19 to discuss plans for action steps, progress on writing position statements, and strategies for network expansion work in specific contexts. The subhub will send monthly emails to the working groups for the remainder of the fall semester and will reconvene regular meetings in Spring 2026.
- The Recruitment Subhub met with potential partners on Oct. 10 and continues to nurture relationships with possible university and college members.
- The Public Awareness/Social Media subhubs continue to publish the monthly MTEP Transformers newsletter, recently launching the "Celebrating Our Small Successes" feature. You can also follow MTEP on your favorite social media platform to stay up-to-date on the latest happenings!
- On Nov. 21, the Administrator Subhub hosted the November NIC-Cast: Partnering with Administrators in Higher Education, State Departments of Education, and Schools Systems to Transform Secondary Mathematics Education. The webinar featured panelists from Auburn University, including administrators Paul G. Fitchett (College of Education), Angela Shirley (Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs) and Ashley Sullivan (College of Education), as well as Central Alabama MTEP team members W. Gary Martin, Marilyn E. Strutchens and Lizzy Harkey. Webinar participants had discussion time to synthesize takeaways from the panel and think about next steps.
- The Policy Subhub continues to contribute to the "Advocacy Corner" newsletter feature and work with legislators to tell stories of the impact of policies.
- This fall, the Research Hub began interviewing selected MTEP teams and will start analyzing the interview data in December. Interviews will continue in Spring 2026—team leaders, be on the lookout for a request for interviews!
- The hub will update the PDSA Cycle Database with Summer 2025 data before January. The database is accessible from the Files section of Groups.io.
- Next semester, the hub will also update the NIC Partnership Profiles and storylines with Summer 2025 data. These profiles and storylines collectively represent completed case analyses for all NICs to tell their stories of transformation.
- The Change Agent Subhub held a check in on Oct. 23, focused on community building and synergizing efforts. The subhub continues to explore how to make the meetings more useful and build opportunities for asynchronous interaction.
- The Change Coach Subhub held its fall meeting on Sept. 8, including a check in on team communication and a broader discussion about how coaches can use available tools, like the PDSA Cycle Database and Partnership Profiles, with team NICs. The subhub continues to send monthly emails to coaches with reminders and conversation starters for engaging with teams. The next change coach meeting will be held at 3 p.m. CDT on Jan. 26, 2026.
- The Cross-team Improvement Subhub met on Oct. 14 and encouraged selected groups to submit proposals to present at the 2026 MTEP Conference.
- The MTEP STRETCH (Supporting The Retention of Early-Career Mathematics Teachers) working group is continuing its monthly meetings for pre-service teachers, recent graduates and their mentor teachers. With the new term beginning in January 2026, the group invites new and returning participants to join.
- The MTEP Leadership Academy cohort was established in early December. The Academy will launch at the MTEP Conference in February 2026! Participants will then meet virtually each month from March through June, and the Academy will conclude with an in-person meeting in July. Participants will gain access to leadership tools and resources, with an emphasis on community building.
- The Admin Hub is assisting with travel support requests for the 2026 MTEP and AMTE conferences. If you have questions about travel support, reach out to Meghan Leadabrand at mleadabrand2@unl.edu.
- The Admin Hub is also providing logistical support for mini-grant proposals, particularly related to ordering materials and getting participants paid. (See below for information about applying for a mini-grant.)
- We are continuing to use Groups.io for MTEP-related communications. If you haven’t already, please sign up for the communications list!
- The 2026 MTEP Conference will be held as a preconference to the 2026 AMTE Conference in Portland, Oregon. MTEP will also host an extended networking breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, during the AMTE Conference. In addition, the preconference will be co-hosted by ESTEEM and include sessions focusing on data science as well as secondary mathematics teacher preparation. Register for online attendance by Jan. 31, 2026! (In-person registration is now closed.)
- MTEP NIC Support Mini-Grants are available to support travel to promote collaboration within or across teams, events hosted by MTEP teams, stipends for consultants and/or participants, and/or materials required for proposed activities. Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis. See the Request for Proposals for the proposal template and submission link.
- The hub leadership is thinking about strategic plans and structures to keep in place beyond the end of the MTEP 2.0 grants in Fall 2026.
