How long have you been at your institution?
MR: I have been at Auburn University for the last six years.
Who is your favorite mathematician or educator character in a book, movie or TV show?
MR: My favorite educator is Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter books.
What inspired you to get involved in mathematics education research?
MR: I have always been curious about the different movements happening within the education system, and by participating in the research, I feel like I can also contribute now to the advancement of our education system.
What skills or knowledge are you learning through working with the partnership that you find most useful in your career?
MR: I am learning about all the intricacies that go into creating and sustaining good partnerships that I feel will be very useful in my career.
What advice would you give to students who want to pursue careers in mathematics teaching, teacher preparation, and/or education research?
MR: I would say that patience is very important. Have patience with yourself as you navigate the different environments and have patience with others as you get to know them more.
How is your involvement in MTEP work worthwhile to your graduate school/professional journey?
MR: I have truly enjoyed making connections with people from different states, and it has helped me to grow in my graduate school experiences.
What skill do you think is most valuable for students considering a career in mathematics teaching, teacher preparation, and/or education research?
MR: I believe that being reflective is the most valuable skill to have.
Tell us about the most rewarding mathematics education experience that you have had.
MR: Being able to attend conferences where I was able to hear and talk to individuals who are a big part of educational research.
