Far From Heaven is an operatic musical, which transports us to 1957 to meet the Whitakers, a nearly perfect young couple with a beautiful home in the suburbs and two young children. It will be performed by UNL Opera of the Glenn Korff School of Music on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. and again Sunday, February 26 at 3 p.m in Kimball Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
The family is living the American dream, or so it seems. Issues desperately hidden in the 1950s still surface today. These issues cause the couple’s life to unravel as they try to hold the seams of their dream together. A sumptuous score by Scott Frankel sets the couple’s life to music ranging from moments of lighthearted charm to heart-melting passion. You may not yet be familiar with this story, but you will never forget it. There is adult subject matter, not recommended for children.
Far From Heaven includes music by Scott Frankel; lyrics by Michael Korie from the book by Richard Greenberg.
