Amanda Bergeron-Bauer, SNR recruitment coordinator, is organizing a series of professional development workshops for SNR undergraduate and graduate students that lead up to the SNR Research Fair on April 15-16. The first workshop, "Presenting an Elevator Speech," kicks off the series from 12:30-1:30 p.m., March 4 in Hardin Hall Auditorium.

"You can go to all of them or you can go to the ones that are most beneficial for you," Bergeron-Bauer said. "It's not going to matter if you do undergraduate or graduate research – I think these topics are helpful to both levels."

SNR director John Carroll and graduate students Katie McCollum and Andrei Snyman will present the first workshop, which is designed to help students get ready for the inaugural SNR Elevator Speech Competition slated to take place April 17. Competition participants will be eligible to win one of three $1,000 prizes.

"This workshop will provide details about the competition as well as tips for creating a successful elevator speech," Bergeron-Bauer said. "So they're going to get all of the information they need to compete, both logistically and how to prepare as well."

The other two workshops include:

"Creating a Research Poster," 3-4 p.m., March 13 in Love Library. Get a head start on putting together a research poster by attending this workshop sponsored by UCARE. Please register at: http://research.unl.edu/events/event.php?eventID=862.

"Presenting Your Research," 12-1 p.m., April 7 in 209 Hardin Hall. Presented by Kent Fricke, SNR graduate student; Jess Laskowski, SNR graduate student; and Julie Bray-Obermeyer, CASNR career development director, this workshop will provide attendees with tips on presenting research in formal settings such as poster sessions and conferences. Anyone presenting his or her research at a conference or symposium this spring will benefit from this workshop. Bray-Obermeyer will discuss tips for networking at conferences, and Fricke and Laskowski will provide best practices for presenting research in formal settings. The workshop will end with poster presentations by SNR graduate students.

Anyone with questions or requests for more information regarding these workshops should contact Bergeron-Bauer at abergeron2@unl.edu or 472-7471.
