The theme for the March 18-19 Teaching and Learning Symposium focuses on Confronting Realities in the Classroom: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with Bryan Dewsbury as the keynote speaker and leader of several workshops.

Also presenting will be Chad Brassil, associate professor of biological sciences and faculty director of undergraduate analytics, who has been compiling and analyzing statistics about undergraduate student diversity and equity at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Brassil will present his findings and explain where inequity can be improved upon at the university.

This will be the second symposium held online via Zoom. The keynote will be open to all higher-ed teaching professionals including faculty and staff from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, University of Nebraska-Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Registration is available online.

Dewsbury is an associate professor of biology from the University of Rhode Island and Principal Investigator of the Science Education and Society (SEAS) research program where participants blend research on the social context of teaching and learning, faculty development of inclusive practices, and programming in the cultivation of equity in education. He is also a Fellow with the John N. Gardner Institute where he assists institutions of higher education to cultivate best practices in inclusive education.

The symposium will feature online poster sessions with teaching techniques submitted by faculty and students for attendees. Posters will focus on the theme of diversity, equity and inclusion along with other topics.
