Professional captioning available through spring semester

Faculty and graduate students are encouraged to have academic video content professionally captioned.

As the university transitions from VidGrid to YuJa for academic video content creation, there are professional, human-captioning “minutes” available through VidGrid. Typically reserved only for content in courses where a student has a documented need for professional captioning, Academic Technologies is now offering this service for all video content through the end of the spring semester. Professional captioning is completed by a human transcriptionist and is 99% accurate.

Examples of content to consider submitting for captioning include videos currently being used in class, new videos that are created before the end of the semester, existing “evergreen” video content that is used every semester, training videos that benefit faculty and students, and video content created elsewhere but that can be uploaded into VidGrid.

Follow these steps to use the professional captioning service:

  1. Log into your VidGrid account and go to your Library.
  2. Open the video you would like captioned by double-clicking it.
  3. Click the “CC” button found in the bottom right-hand corner of the video.
  4. When the “Caption dashboard” box pops up, click the “Request” tab.
  5. Select the “professional caption” option.

All requests will be automatically approved for professional captioning. Turnaround time for videos that are 30 minutes or less is 24 hours. Turnaround time for videos that are 31-60 minutes is 2.5 days and videos that are 61+ minutes long will be completed within 5 days.

This professional captioning service is compatible with YuJa, so captioned videos will remain intact once captioned video content is migrated to YuJa.
