This spring, the Center for Transformative Teaching is offering a set of programs designed to support instructors across a range of teaching contexts — from improving course accessibility to working with large enrollment courses, supporting international students, and exploring hands-on uses of generative AI. All sessions are practical, discussion-based, and designed to help participants leave with ideas and strategies they can use right away.
“Boost Your Score” Accessibility Events
In response to American Disabilities Act Title II guidelines, all digital content — including materials in Canvas courses — must meet new federal accessibility standards by April 24, 2026.
To help instructors meet this deadline, the CTT is hosting “Boost Your Score” events. During these sessions, faculty open their Canvas courses, use the Ally accessibility tool to identify issues, and get real-time support from instructional designers to improve course accessibility and boost Ally scores.
Events can be held in person or via Zoom, and the CTT can facilitate a work session during a regular department meeting or help you schedule a standalone session for your unit.
The CTT is now booking “Boost Your Score” sessions. To schedule an event for your department, fill out this quick interest form.
AI Skill Sharing Learning Community
We will facilitate the AI Skill Sharing Learning Community again this spring. If you have a practice you would like to share with other instructors or would like to be added to the contact list to be notified when dates are set, please email Sydney Brown (sbrown3@unl.edu).
Century Club
The Century Club was created to support instructors teaching classes of over 100 students. This spring, the Century Club will meet three times via Zoom, with discussion topics announced one week prior to each meeting: Feb. 18, 1-2 p.m.; March 31, 12:30-1:30 p.m.; and April 28, 2-3 p.m.
Contact Yulia Levchenko at ylevchenko2@unl.edu with questions or to join the club.
Supporting International Student Success Series
The International Student and Scholar Office and the CTT will host three Zoom sessions this spring to provide practical insights on supporting international students on campus.
Since Spring 2023, ISSO and CTT have delivered collaborative workshops that bring together UNL faculty and staff who support international students. This spring’s sessions focus on communicating explicit expectations, creating inclusive assessments, and understanding how program closures and visa issues can affect students’ academic performance and life in the U.S. All sessions will take place via Zoom. Registration details will be forthcoming.
- Setting Explicit Expectations: Building Clarity Across Cultures Feb. 10, 12:30-1:30 p.m. – Tools for articulating course policies, participation norms, and academic standards in ways that minimize ambiguity and build trust.
- Designing Fair and Inclusive Assessments Across Cultures March 10, 12:30-1:30 p.m. – Strategies for inclusive assessments that reduce cultural bias, improve clarity, and support academic integrity and student confidence.
- Navigating Uncertainty: Supporting International Students Through Program and Policy Changes April 14, 12:30-1:30 p.m. – Guidance on how program closures and visa changes can affect students’ stability and progress, plus strategies for proactive communication and referral.
