Direct Students to CAPS Services

Student in distress
Student in distress

There may come a time when a student comes to you seeking advice and support. Their concerns could be personal in nature, related to their academic studies or something else altogether. If this happens to you, don’t hesitate to direct them to the resources available through Counseling and Psychological Services.

We have over 20 mental health professionals on staff who can help your students with a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress and many others. Most students can be seen within 10 days for non-urgent concerns, 48 hours for urgent concerns and the same day for crises. Students can receive after-hours support by calling 402.472.5000 to speak to an on-call therapist.

We never want cost to be a barrier for students seeking services, which is why we offer certain individual therapy visits and support groups for no cost to most students. Other visits may have a reduced rate. Financial assistance is available.

We are located inside the University Health Center. If students do not feel comfortable accessing our services from this location, we offer casual drop-in services at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center.

Students can make an appointment in person at the Health Center or by calling 402.472.5000.

Feel free to also remind your students about the wealth of online resources available on the Counseling and Psychological Services website: https://health.unl.edu/caps. Informational videos and articles, a list of helpful apps, online mental health screenings and more are just a click away.

We also offer helpful tips for faculty on how to help students, recognize students in distress and respond to disturbing statements. For more information, visit: https://health.unl.edu/caps/bigredfolder.
