For many students, finding their career path can be a struggle. They may feel lost when it comes to finding their interests, or they just might be unsure about what they want to do most. Explore Center is here to help with Major Exploration Week, March 6 through 8.
The purpose of Major Exploration Week is just what it sounds like. The three nights of events are aimed at helping students discover their interests, explore their values and find the major that’s their perfect fit.
The first event is “Values, Majors and Careers.” During this time, students will take a values assessment that helps them understand and identify what they value most in a career. Knowing what they want in a career is the first important step that’s needed before they pick a major.
The second event is “How to Choose a Major.” Students can go through the more than 150 majors UNL has to offer- and start cutting out what one’s don’t interest them, and figuring out which ones they’d like to know more about. They’ll learn the important details about each major, as well as information about resources that would be available to them.
The final event of Major Exploration Week is “Getting to Know Your Interests, Skills and Values.” The Focus 2 Career Assessment will be offered, and students can take it to find out where their interests, skills and values connect. Using the results, they will then be matched to UNL majors and career options that would be their best fit.
