Many of your students are probably feeling the stress of the spring semester. Not only do they have homework to keep up with and class schedules to sort out, but internship and job application deadlines are fast approaching. Luckily, Career Services has plenty of upcoming opportunities that can help them set their career in motion- without the stress!
For students that dream of working in Washington, the Federal Government Job Search Workshop on March 8th is a great place to start. This event connects students with resources that will help them as they search and apply for jobs in the federal government. Students can ask their questions to federal employees during a panel, and also learn in a workshop how they can create their federal resume.
The SERV (Serve, Educate, Respond, Volunteer) Career Fair on March 14th is the perfect chance for students interested in the nonprofit sector to connect and network with potential employers. It’s also a chance for students interested in education to meet with representatives from school districts across the country. The more than 50 employers attending this fair can be found on the Career Services website. If you know a student that wants to be well-prepared, tell them to set up an appointment with Career Services beforehand! Or, if you would like to incorporate this event as a part of your class curriculum, please contact our offices at careerservices@unl.edu.
If you have a student interested in helping others while building their own professional skill set, encourage them to apply to be a peer career guide. This job allows for them to help their peers develop resumes, find job resources and generally develop their career path. It also allows for them to explore their own career path and network with future employers at the same time! Interested students should send a cover letter and resume to Emily Wilber at emily@unl.edu.
More information about all these events, including employer lists, locations and times, can be found online at the Career Services website.
