Well-being coaching is a new program within the Office of Student Affairs Big Red Resilience and Well-being to help students create the life they want to live both now and in the future. Students can schedule visits to discuss strengths and improve the nine dimensions of personal well-being. Coaches are trained student volunteers with a passion for helping their peers thrive.

Well-being coaches went through an extensive training class learning about gratitude, social connections, stress management, emotional awareness, strength building, growth mindsets, and transitions. They developed an understanding and increased awareness of well-being and how to use motivational interviewing to affect behavior change in college students.

Well-being coaches each have their own personal helping philosophy. Below are two examples of this helping philosophy.

"I have obtained and further developed many of my helping skills, especially in strength building, through my time in the well-being coach class. I hope to continue to use these skills as a coach and provide as much support as possible to students who reach out. This will hopefully make the most out of these student interactions and have them leaving our appointments feeling more confident and motivated." — Amanda Nelson, Psychology

"I follow the idea of making your dreams become reality. I want to help students recognize a big goal that they want to achieve or something that they want to fix and turn that into smaller, workable steps." — Hoai Vu, Business Administration
