The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and the Center for Transformative Teaching invite instructors of 100- and 200-level courses to apply for a course redesign cohort opportunity that aims to prepare students for excellence.

During fall semester 2019, instructors will participate in a learning community with faculty and staff from Instructional Design, University Libraries, and Academic Learning Technologies to develop or enhance student-centered assignments and activities in order to optimize students’ opportunities to learn.

Instructors interested in participating should apply by April 22. Participants will be notified by April 26.

Participation in the program will provide:

  • A stipend of $2,000 to support course transformation and participation
  • Support from colleagues to help facilitate redesign and evaluation of redesign
  • Participation in a learning community with motivated colleagues from across campus
  • Opportunities to explore research on teaching and learning, to connect research to practice, and to reflect on your teaching
  • Opportunities to learn strategies that may foster deeper connections with your students and promote a more enjoyable teaching experience

To receive funding, participants must commit to:
  • Participate in biweekly learning community meetings
  • Complete pre-work reading and/or assignments prior to each meeting
  • Consult with support team members
  • Develop a course redesign plan, comprised of learning outcomes, an assessment map, and teaching strategies
  • Pilot your course redesign within an academic year, and conduct evaluations to determine how course redesign has impacted student learning
  • Commit to teaching the course in its redesigned form for three terms
  • Participate in program assessment activities (e.g. written reflections, peer observations, surveys)

Learning community sessions will be held on Thursday afternoons:
  • Program kick-off: Aug. 22 at 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Learning community meetings: Sept. 5, Sept. 19, Oct. 3, Oct. 17, Oct. 31, and Nov. 14 at 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
  • Program wrap-up: Dec. 2 at 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
