As outlined in the Forward Together global strategy, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is committed to bringing the best from around the world and expanding opportunities for students through innovative, global experiential learning. In this spirit, the Office of Global Strategies invites all departments, colleges and student organizations to host an event for International Education Week in November, which has been extended to a month-long celebration.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. The annual event is celebrated in more than 100 countries, spotlighting global diversity and encouraging others to experience new cultures. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Nebraska organized over 30 virtual events last year that emphasized the benefits of international exchange and education.

This year, the official dates are Nov. 15 to 19. However, in order to provide additional flexibility for student schedules and further elevate the power of global education, IEW at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln celebration has been extended to a month-long celebration from November 1 to 24.

All campus units are invited to host an event as part of the celebrations, in compliance with the university’s current COVID-19 policies. Some examples of common event ideas include, but are not limited to:

  • Information sessions on education abroad and international internship opportunities
  • Foreign language conversation workshops
  • Student presentations on their home countries
  • Panel discussions, lectures and presentations on topics such as international research, global careers and post-graduate opportunities
  • Virtual or socially distanced open house with global features
As events are updated for the 2021 calendar, details will be posted on the IEW website. All students, faculty and staff are also welcome to join the celebration by using #IEW2021 and #IEWatUNL on social media.

The Office of Global Strategies will publicize all events. Campus units should contact Mia Azizah at sazizah@unl.edu to have their event added to the comprehensive web calendar and all promotional materials. Finalized event details are requested to be submitted no later than Wednesday, Oct. 27.
