The kickoff for the 2011-12 Omaha Area Math Teachers' Circle will be held Thursday, Dec. 8, at the UNO Thompson Alumni House, 67th & Dodge, from 4:30–6 p.m., featuring Judith Covington, Mathematics Education Professor at the Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
Covington is coming to UNO to present about using the game SET to teach mathematics in the classroom, grades 4-12.
Students always enjoy playing games in math class. Come and learn all about a game that you can use to help develop your students’ critical thinking skills. You will learn how to play the game of SET and have time to experience the joy of simply playing the game. We will then examine the game more closely and have mathematical discussions on questions such as:
(1) What is the probability of dealing a random Set?
(2) What are the classifications of the types of Sets?
(3) What is the most common type of Set?
(4) What is the least common type of Set?
Please join us for light refreshments and a fun, educational, mathematical event!
