Professor Ryan Sullivan presented during the Legislative Update session at the NSBA Annual Meeting in October. Professor Sullivan was asked to speak on the updates to Nebraska’s “Clean Slate Laws” that went into effect in July. Over the last few years, he and several teams of Civil Clinic students, as part of the Clinic’s Clean Slate Project, worked with legislators to clarify and expand Nebraska’s laws relating to criminal conviction set-asides and record sealing.
Relatedly, Professor Sullivan was asked to join a collaborative of service providers who assist survivors of human trafficking. Sullivan will assist in developing a procedure for survivors to utilize one of the recently adopted clean slate laws to set aside and seal certain past convictions related to their victimization.
