Add an awesome chapter to your story by traveling abroad with the CoJMC

Add an awesome chapter to your story by traveling with your classmates to China, Cuba or Ireland this summer.

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is sponsoring three education abroad programs in May. All three courses are 3-credit hours that fulfill the university’s ACE 9 requirement for international study. The courses are timed for the pre-session to allow you to attend summer school, intern or work afterward.

Representatives from the CoJMC will be at the Education Abroad Fair Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Centennial Room at the Nebraska Union to answer your questions.

CHINA
Already a huge player on the global stage, China will only grow still more important and fascinating in coming years. Bryan Wang, an advertising professor, and Joe Weber, a journalism professor, will take a group of students to Beijing and Shanghai, China, spending about a week in each place. The program runs from May 18-June 5 (with some preliminary sessions and a bit of debriefing after the trip). Professors Weber and Wang can be reached at josephweber@unl.edu or bryanmingwang@gmail.com.

CUBA
There’s a certain mystique to Cuba and its communication methods. What better time to find out more about it? This summer, you can explore how the media environment and culture impact informational messaging and marketing communication in Cuba. Phyllis Larsen, an advertising and public relations professor, will take a group of students to Havana, Cuba. The program runs from May 18-June 5 (dates may vary and there will be some preliminary sessions and a bit of debriefing after the trip). Professor Larsen can be reached at plarsen1@unl.edu.

IRELAND
This program will expose students to Irish history and culture in order to learn about the unique relationship of Irish citizens to their media. Students will have the opportunity to travel to numerous historical landmarks, news organizations and advertising/public relations agencies. Professor Rick Alloway, a broadcasting professor, and Dean Maria Marron, a native of Ireland, will lead the trip. The program runs from May 18-June 5 (with some preliminary sessions and a bit of debriefing after the trip). Professor Alloway can be reached at ralloway1@unl.edu.

The CoJMC faculty will be happy to talk with you to flesh out the details. The courses are described on the CoJMC website at http://journalism.unl.edu/education-abroad.
