Do you know a standout undergraduate student — one who is especially inquisitive, engaged, and well prepared for graduate study and/or a leadership career?
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships seeks referrals of juniors and graduating seniors who may be interested in applying for awards for research, public service, graduate study, or English teaching abroad.
Popular awards include the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, graduate leadership scholarships (Marshall, Rhodes, Knight-Hennessy Scholars, etc.), and graduate scholarships for the U.S. Foreign Service (Rangel, Pickering, Payne).
UNL students and alumni are frequently successful in application to these awards. Currently, seven Husker alumni – Sarah Brady, Leigh Jahnke, Laura Jensen, Celie Knudsen, Adrian Pilkington, Spencer Tessman, and Joanna Walton – are abroad as 2022-23 Fulbright Students. An additional seven alumni – Freddy Gonzalez, Aaron Haake, Lauren Lesiak, Rebecca Leuschen, Mark Nail, Olivia Pletcher, and Boqiang Tu – are 2022-23 NSF Graduate Research Fellows.
Applicants for these awards participate in advising over the summer. Interested students will be provided access to Canvas advising workspace resources and personalized application materials feedback. Students can also book a fellowships advising appointment, following guidance on the fellowship website.
To refer an undergraduate student, contact Courtney Santos, director of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, at courtney.santos@unl.edu.
