The Husker Student POWER survey will be distributed to first-year and new transfer students through Canvas and @Huskers email beginning Sept. 11. Faculty and staff working with first-year and new transfer students are encouraged to promote fourth-week survey completion to their students.

The survey is designed to identify students who may need additional resources or referrals to support their university transition and belonging. The fall 2023 iteration of the survey consists of the following statements to which students respond yes or no:

  1. I have found a friend or group of friends at UNL.
  2. I am experiencing financial distress.
  3. I want assistance in becoming involved in campus life.
  4. I am struggling in one or more classes.
  5. I would like some support for my emotional well-being.
  6. I have questions but I do not know who to ask for answers.
  7. I am having technological difficulties in completing my coursework.
  8. I have the course materials I need for all my classes.
  9. I sometimes feel alone or isolated because of my racial, ethnic, or cultural identity.
  10. I am considering not returning to UNL next semester.
  11. I am attending all of my classes (in person and/or remotely) regularly.
  12. I sometimes feel alone or isolated because of my sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Completion of the Husker Student POWER survey is a critical component of the university’s overall retention strategy to support student success. Campus teams contact students who raise concerns in particular areas and provide additional support and resources.
